Winnebago County offers free screening and services funded by Winnebago County Empowerment:

•Lead screening and testing

o It is an Iowa school requirement to have your child lead tested.
o Many children show no signs of lead poisoning
o Look for peeling and chipped pain
o Wash your child’s/infants hands often
o Dust the house and mop and vacuum floors
o Check window sills and ply areas for paint chips
o Wash child’s toys/pacifier often
o It can be prevented
o It can cause learning and behavior problems
o It can cause seizures and even death


Preschool Oral Health screening

o It is an Iowa school requirement to have your child have a dental screening before Kindergarten.
o Winnebago County nurses have been trained to do the dental screening and assessment.
o Fluoride varnish can be applied as soon as your infant gets their first tooth, every 6 months thru the age of 12 year.
